I agree with Mark, unless you have Bandwidth problems or a strong reason to do this , I recommend to keep it as it is.. On the other hand you can control it using monitoring applications or advanced configurations on your network devices such as QoS "Quality of service" where you can give certain types of traffic "Video or Voice" the priority to be trasmitted on top of other types of traffic.

Another thing to mention is to do the required control through blocking/limiting certain applications for specific users , where you would block MSN for example or File transfer to a certain user or group of users..one of the top application to do that is called Websense..

Hope this helps..

It would be easier to know how to answer if we knew WHY you'd like to control the "speed" or bandwidth consumed. Generally it's not controlled and it's shared equally so that everyone has something close to the full bandwidth available to them when they need it. In the past when connecting to the Internet / network at work has gotten slow because someone is hogging bandwidth unnecessarily I've preferred to address it through personnel management. (Hey Sally, you're slowing everybody down by watching streaming video. If it's not work related, please stop!) If bandwidth is simply inadequate then it needs to be addressed through either faster connections or equipment, or better network design. There could even be problems on individual PC's which are hurting bandwidth / speed, and network monitoring tools can be very useful in tracking down problem machines.

Assuming your NIC cards are set up correctly, you can't control the internet download or upload speed, your ISP and the web itself control that.

You can control the network speed on your LAN, to some degree, by ensuring that your NIC cards are set up correctly.

I use the free Dr. TCP, but it can be a little "geeky":

TIP: Use 32767 in the first box and choose each NIC card then Save.

If you use Firefox, it can be tweaked too. Try the free Firetune:

Your question seems to be weird. Actually, why would you want to control the speeds. Let it be the default one.

Anyway. there are handy tools to do this stuff. One of them is Network Magic. you can get it from http://www.download.com
