Sometimes, on Windows 2000.. the network drives become unavailable if you don't use them. If you go into my computer, you will see a red X on the drive. Double click the drive mapping and it will wake up again.. you shouldn't have to logout. There is a registry hack you can use to prevent that from happening, but first make sure that works for you.

This behavior occurs because Windows NT Server 4.0, Windows 2000 Server, and Windows Server 2003 can drop idle connections after a specified time-out period (by default, 15 minutes) to prevent wasting server resources on unused sessions. The connection can be re-established very quickly, if required.

You didn't say if you were behind a router or a switch or both. I have seen switches cause this issue. If rebooting the switch has the same effect as log off / on then the switch may be at fault.

You might also want to check the server and the router to be sure DHCP is turned off since all machines are on fixed IPs. Since I assume the server is the shared network drive what happens if it is restarted? It could just be an eithernet card problem at the server.

It may be sometimes you have set the Mapped Network Drive to automatically disconnect after a certain period of time.

The best thing to do is to, disconnect these drives and connect them again, this time checking the option, Reconnect at Startup.

Then, log off from the machine and relogin.

That shold solve your problem

If it truly is a cloud or digital ecosystem, you are able to bypass the picture to a special VM, and then reboot the actual hardware that you want with out affecting amenities. except that, it would want to be cached.
