No..becareful who you listen to on this topic.
I recently purchased a laptop and completely avoided -- and tried to warn others - NOT TO get a laptop with Vista.
Now, youre in a pickle because if you format the drive hoping to install Windows XP -- youre going ot have issues with the drivers for the hardware.
THIS INFO CAME FROM A VISTA TECH!
You cant step down as you normally would with other operating systems, with this new piece of crapVista.
You can try, but you will have problems getting drivers for your hardware, since Windows XP wil not support them since they arent written for XP.
You can try,and I hope it works for you, but this is the exact response I received from a Windows Vista Tech from Dell and Toshiba.
Hope you prove them wrong.
I purchased a Duo Core Anthlon with XP Pro, 1GB system RAM, 128 dedicated Video Ram for $750, and windows XP flies with 1 GB, where Vista needs 1gb to function

Hi,
1- If i were in your shoes, I would use dual boot, install 2 OS , One Xp and One Vista in diffrent partions then I quit Xp gradually.
2- sometimes by getting online solutions in win vista i was able to solve some softwares problems such as ACAD MSDEV ,...
so take a look on the web, look for online solutions, any upgrade for both (win Vista and your specific software)
Good LUCK

It may be cheaper to try to resolve the problems with vista. To change to XP you need to have an XP installation disk and then reformat the hard drive completely removing vista.
With the software that isn't working try right clicking on the prgram and running as administrator, if that doesn't work right click choose properties and set the compaibility to XP. If running as administrator works you can also chose to automaticaly run as admin here too.

If you did not UPGRADE to Vista, it means you will have to purchase Windows XP and start all over again.
An alternate would be to contact Microsoft's local Customer desk and tell them what software is not running.
Also check out the updates on Microsoft site

u bought a laptop with vista pre-loaded....and now u want to use xp.......is that right.? then...its perfectly alright to install xp on your new laptop....
i myself got the same problem....
you have two options here...
1>dual boot xp and vista(ie. installing xp without deleting vista)
in this case u will be able to use vista as well as xp ..
2>delete vista and the install xp...
i will suggest the first option..
but but but..
before u install xp just make sure of the following....
1>go to the manufacturer's website and find out if they are providing the device drivers for xp for your model laptop...
2>download all the drivers listed for your model and the proceed for installing xp..
good luck
and dont worry i have succesfully used vista and xp on my new laptop..

you'll favor to purchase or acquire the Microsoft XP software operating equipment and deploy it into your computer when you delete the Vista equipment. remember to maintain something you want to keep on a disc, memory stick, etc. because replacing structures will delete all of your records, records, favorites, etc. solid success.

buy microsoft xp and install it. you will have to reinstall every program on the computer. try going to microsoft first and downloading the updates. Keep in mind all new software is going to be built to run on vista.
