I went to the doctor because I thought I had a UTI, it was very painful when I urinated and there was a little blood. When I went to the doctor, he tested me and said that there were no signs of a UTI but I may have a yeast infection. He prescribed me Diflucan. I took one when I received the prescription, and I had to take the second pill 3 days later. I took the 2nd pill 3 days ago and it seems like it hasn't gone away. The pain from the urinating went away, but I'm very itchy down there...What could it be? And why did the medicine not work? What should I do?

You need to go back to the dr to let them know that you are still having symptoms and wanted to find out from them what the next step is for trying to clear up these symptoms. It still sounds like a yeast infection to me and they may have to have you try a different medication to see if that helps.

Perhaps you are wearing the wrong underwear. It is best to leave much room for your private area to breath. Also, some birth control pills can cause yeast infections. And stress can cause some yeast infections. But i think most commonly tight clothes such as silk panties and small jeans cause problems. A foreign object and douching can cause bacterial infections. Therefore, carefully review what you are participating in, in regards to you private area and those things that come in close proximity to it. Hope you feel better

Jackie,
There could be several reasons that you are still itchy, the first that the medicine has not worked completely. You could try an over the counter medicine which would come with a cream to soothe directly. If however, you try that and still find that you are having problems, or if you develop discharge with a strange smell- you should make an appointment with your doctor again because it is possible that you had more than one type of infection. Good luck, hope you feel better.

I would try some over the counter medications such as monistat.... You can also try taking caprylic acid and acidophilus tablets from the health food store to help relieve the yeast infection. Be sure to stay away from sugars in the mean time and yeasts as well or you will just be feeding the infection.
