I mean, in almost every other degree field... they pay is better than it is for teachers... I mean even in some non-degree fields...
I know plumbers and mechanics that make more...
nothing against them, my dad is actually a plumber... but are our cars and pipes more important to us than our children/future?
it doesn't seem like plumbers and mechanics used to make more? what happened?

why should anyone with a brain go into teaching? hours are horrible... pay lousy...
maybe no one with a brain is anymore? maybe that's part of the problem?

well.. wages are naturally higher in some areas... I know some areas where plumers and mechanics make an INSANE amount of money too...
and 80 k is nothing to many fields with the same amount of education with 20 years of experience in some parts of the country...
and I'm from the south... all I see is poor pay and poor schools... and the tests show it...
I'm saying if you're not competitive... people aren't going to bother... and that's what seems to be happening...

and I seriously doubt teachers make 80k on average after 5 years in nj... maybe college professors...
maybe this is full of it... but 80k sounds MUCH more rediculous...

but, plummers/mechanics also work 40 hour weeks often times... and get paid for overtime...
teachers... usually work much more, between school, grading papers and all that... it's much more than 40 hours a week...
and clearly pipes are much more important to some people here...

YOU PEOPLE ARE PROVING MY POINT...
people AREN'T CHOOSING TO BE A TEACHER BECAUSE IT PAYS POORLY...
so we get the bad teachers that can't do anything else... while people who can do other things, go do them, because THEY MAKE MUCH MORE DOING THEM...
WE HAVE THE LEAST COMPETENT PEOPLE TEACHING OUR KIDS...
NOTE: not always, granted, but it has to have a huge impact when people are looking at what they want to do...
AND PLUMMERS DON'T NEED TRIG, ECT.... THANKS FOR THE LAUGH, I've done enough to call a HUGE bs on that one...

You are absolutely correct! Teachers make far too little. That is due to our society's backward values! And one of the many things we need to work toward fixing in this society! Teachers have always been underpaid. *sm*

I could argue this with you 'till the cows come home but, I think your set in your values.
I attended three colleges, one University and, am a carpenter by trade because the pay is good. I wanted to get into the medical field but, family obligations prevented this.
I was able to use my education to enter a rewarding field that I happen to love. I also do plumbing. I would never be able to do any of this without math, geometry, trig and alagebra. I use my English everyday when meeting new customers and doing jobs. It's not a gift, I went to school for this and am happy about it.
Granted I made upwards of 92 K a year and built my own business. I could have gone into teaching but couldn't see myself with kids.
I never had a holiday, a vacation, I work through the summer with no pay unless I work. I am dirty all the time, most customers think I owe them. I usually make more then most but, I don't tell them this.
I have 47 years experience, a good education and know more then most teachers. I've earned my right through the years to make more than a teacher, I choose my field just as they did, no one made them go into teaching.
Why does a priest go into Gods work, a nurse go in health or a doctor go into health. They feel like they belong there.
My daughter is a surgical nurse that has many years of experience, she helped save countless lives and has come home crying and up set over what's happen in the surgery. I've tried to talk her into another field but she feels like she belongs there.
No one makes someone "choose" their field, they choose it themselves. If you don't like the heat, get away from th fire. Don't knock plumbers, think about it the next time you use the toilet or take a shower. It takes a lot of experience to know what to do.

First off you dont teach for the money. I would say that any moneys recieved by teachers is appropriate for the work that they do (9 months out of the year btw). Tell you what, if teachers want more money then they can work on civillity and equality issues in their classrooms to help foster an environment of inclusion so that we have more viable productive members of society. No more of this Special Education Bullshit. They need to learn to deal with all of the general public and teach the majority of students that these people must be dealt with even more so when they get older. Then they can get their pay raise that they want for no reason other than wanting it.

Q---What are the three best things about being a teacher?
A---june july and august.
oh yeah, and the pension...and benefits
calculate that stuff, and automatic pay raises, and teachers do not make less than phumbers---and do not have to deal with the same kind of shat---but there is certainly unique shat that teachers put up with that plumbers can simply wash their hands of...
I have the upmost respect for teachers, mother and grandmother included. and plumbers. but we are talking apples and oranges here.

Back at Home teachers make around 80k per year after 5years average with only 190 days of School! After 10 years they cannot be fired for even sleeping on the Job! I do not know where you are from but in NJ it seems a win win for NJ teachers

I am not sure how much teachers are supposed to make but I do see a lot of schools that are being built for teachers. I think it nice to have a nice school but children will learn wherever they are. My sister-in-law recently graduated with a diploma and could not read, why should teachers make more?

I suppose it depends on what part of the country you live in . Many teachers I know make a helluva wage . And others make a much smaller wage . Same for any job . Different parts of the country, different wages . Same job, different pay .

Pay is determined by the value added of your labor. I would never think of disparaging why another does what he or she does for the compensation they get. If I find that a problem for myself, I go elsewhere where my labor is valued more. I have had to do that more than once.

They get paid based on a collectivist system, eliminate the collectivism and then the good ones will get paid what they are worth, free market concept, it works.
btw, the bad ones will also need to find a job elsewhere or get better to survive.
what a concept, get paid what your worth

It's just you, they have pretty sweet, secure ride with summers off.
You don't have any respect for plummers either.
I think plummers have always made more.
