How far apart is the computer from the router? It is not only the distance but the objects in between the router and computer. e.g. furniture, walls, etc. however, in a house, you should generally be able to pick up the router anywhere.

Are you sure the second desktop has a wireless adapter in it? What Windows operating system are you using? There should be a little picture of a computer screen in the bottom right hand corner by your clock. Double click that and you should get some options.

If the wireless refuses to work and the distance isn't too far, you can always use cable and have it wired to the router.

Can you give me a bit more info so that I can help more?

Hopefully I think that the problem maybe not be with the distance because Linksys Router would work a pretty much far distance even with obstacles around.

Possibly, the configuration in the desktop computer is not configured correctly which is why, you are experiencing problems connecting.

Try changing the settings like IP address etc to fine tune it

Well distance can affect your connection but with eithernet wire you can have up to 328 feet before it becomes an issue. Wireless may be less depending on walls etc.

Check your desktops connection and be sure it is set to automatic and is getting an IP address. You can do that from the network connection screen or by using the ipconfig command line. (click start -->run-->command-- ipconfig /all

If it does not have a valid IP on you local network then it did not pull an address from your router. You can also just assign it an address and see it if works. (from the network connections screens) If it still does not connect you may have an eithernet card issue.
