The Prince is a book which should be read by every political student because of the following reasons:
1) In his days Michiavelli was living on the crossroads of the past and the future. He gives a great depth of knowledge about how a leader should acquire power because he was also of a ruthless mind . My dear friend search for more information on michiavelli's life and you will find out the answer to your questions.

In my opinion, Machiavelli gave a one response for all situations kind of outlook on power. He seems to argue that this one response will work well always and he doesn't take into account situations when it won't. It is more an analysis of principles rather than a guide to using them.

Have you tried googling the book? If that doesn't help, google Donald Trump and read his biography. You might find some interesting parallels there.

Shakespeare's Othello is a good example. 'to know your enemy is to befriend him first'.
