My best friend told me that he wanted to wear sunglasses but he was wearing glasses with a high degree of 600 in both eyes. When we all went all in a group, like to the beach he used to tell me that he felt weird coz hes the only one whose wearing spectacles while all of us were decked all in cool sunglasses. And hes really afraid of using contact lenses. So for he's 16th birthday I wanted to get a pair of prescription sunglasses for him, I was thinking of getting him an oakley gascan, but I heard that some sunglasses can't be prescriped and those that could, had a limit to the amount of degree that the lenses could take. Please anyone this is really important, tell me which sunglasses can be prescriped especially the oakley gascan and the limit degree. Thanks

If you are going to buy perscription glasses for your friend, make sure you have his perscription handy. Don't rely on borrowing a pair of glasses from him and using them as a template. I did this once, and had to get my lens remade, because it used to giveme sore eyes. You are correct when you say only certain glasses can be used for perscription lenses. If the lens are excessively curved, they cannot have perscription lens. As a general rule, try to buy a set that have a flatter lens, as curved lenses tend to distort the image at the edges. And buy a good quality brand. I have a set of Raybans, and they are great. However, there are a range of manufacturers that make perscription sunglasses. Just vist a large optometerist chain, and have a look at their range. The limitation in perscription glasses is not always based upon brand, it is based upon curvature of the lens.

You would have to go to an optometrist, or spectacle maker and ask them. They do have a large range of frames, some with big brand names, that can be made into sunglasses with prescription lenses. You can't just take in a frame and ask them to make prescription lenses to fit.

Many shades are perfectly flat. (I am holding some within my hands at this time, smallish oblong shades inside a silver-colored frame.) It's purely a stylistic factor. Nothing related to physics or optics (unless of course they're prescription shades).

you need to ask his mom for his prescription (they won't make the glasses without it) and then take that to any glasses place, like Lenscrafters... they'll help you out. That's a great birthday gift btw. Good job!
