There's people at school and work that I talk to AT school and work, but I don't really have any friends. Nobody invites me anywhere, so I rarely go anywhere. I have siblings, but my brother doesn't really have friends either, and my sister is quite a bit younger than me. I've never done anything with anyone (except family) outside of school (except organized sports). I have been on one date, but that didn't work out. All I want to know is how the heck do I make a friend. I feel like nobody would want to be my friend because I'm shy and quiet when I first meet people, and they would think I was boring.

Really sympathise with you on this one. I've lost alot of friends having been through severe depression, and sometimes even though I will chat with alot of people, no one appears to want anything more such as friendship, it can be lonely at times. Had a fair few friends a while ago, but became frustrated when they would either start using me for money or just not go out of their way to contact me, it'd be all one sided. Now, I'd like to make friends too, but sometimes it's just hard, but I still keep trying. Good luck hey?

Go to places where others your age are going, church groups, YMCA, events around town such as fairs or sport event. Once you get to a place realize that guys by themselves are doing the same things you are and start a conversation with a simple hello. If the guy wants to talk like you do, he will and if he is shy like you, try introducing some topics, "go to these things much?" First time here? If it goes well and you talk for a while and leave together, again a simple " Would you like to hang out sometime again and do this or something else? It is not easy to talk to strangers for me either but most people are the same as you and want to talk even if for only a little while. Good luck and try it!!
