What is your definition of emo?

I do have my own view of what an emo is, and no i don't dislike them. But there seems to be so many misconceptions, stereotypes and hate groups for emo's. So what do you think?

Some definitions of emo hold that typical "emo persons" are likely to inflict self-injury, most often by means of cutting, burning, or otherwise mutilating themselves. Some assert that it is cool within the emo subculture to pretend to be suicidal and self-harm, or that participants self-harm purely for personal enjoyment.

Emo is a label, same as any other label, created by people who don't understand the individual they label, so they create a label in order to judge those individuals. Judging them, of course, so that they can feel either a connection with them, or isolate them to protect the label makers from them. If you use a label on someone that they themselves didn't create or don't embrace, it becomes an element of ridicule, placing a barrier between you and the ones you label. Many times labels are attached out fear that stems from misunderstanding, but sometimes labels are attached as a result of jealousy by persons who wish they could express themselves freely but don't have the courage.

Emos are like goths, in that even they cannot agree on a definition of what an Emo is. I've got one though that fits both goth and emo alike. It's pretty easy to remember:

an emo to me is a person who dresses only in black and red has wierd hair that makes them look like different types of fruit and listens to only one type of music and they cut themselves and are depressed all the time.(thats my view)
the emo's at my school get so much crap i feel sorry for them but its their choice to be emo and i think they like being outcasts. last year their was "kill the emo's before they kill themselves" campaighn and these guys called themselves emo estinguishers and dressed up like gost buster type things and handed out panphlets and put up posters everywhere.....lol highschool
