I think that as a culture we are becoming lonely. Even though we are never alone because we have the cell phone and Instant Messaging and E-mail and Text Messaging and Pagers and GPS locators. but we never use a complete sentence any more but im u n me bf to save time and of course costs. When we could actually visit, or write some snail mail. and have real communication with real people. Sure we chat with near complete strangers in different hemispheres but do we know them? Can we feel their emotions or sense their body language or smell their pheromones? Of course not, but we search for human contact anyway, even if it is just a scratchy voice that too often gets dropped mid vowel.

Well, i cannot diagnose myself :p
Anyways - a big part of the cell phone craziness you mentioned is media induced.
Especially young people will believe they are worthless if they don`t have cell phone brand X and the latest model of it. And of course, once you have it, you can only remain cool by sending lots and lots of (expensive) text messages about nothing.
People are too focused on 'want to have' and 'got to have' (pokemons slogan 'gotta get them all' sums it up nicely).
I have a cell phone, and use it on occasion. I do not feel the impulse to show i`m cool (hell, mine doesn`t even have an MP3 player or camera). But then, i`m no longer a teenager :D

I think having a phone attached to their heads have burned too many brain cells. {see a connection?}
Have common sense & manners when talking in public.
What burns me is when people are in the store not paying attention to what their doing, blocking the aisle, or talking loud & swearing. Chatting away like their the only person around.
It's just selfish.
Take notice...THERE'S MUCH MORE IN THE WORLD BESIDES YOU & YOUR PHONE!!!

Humans have an insatiable need to inflate their egos. So they think as long as they're talking to someone, they must be important. God forbid someone should be unable to reach their dumbass when they just might have an emergency brain surgery to perform!
TURN YOUR GODDAMN CELLPHONES OFF AT THE MOVIES. If you're not there to see the movie, worried that you might miss that brain surgery call, THEN DON'T GO TO THE MOVIES. But that's just too hard for some people to understand.

I have never had one, and I doubt if I ever will. I have no one to call who lives far from me. And if people want to talk to me they can call me when I'm home. I don't need to talk to them while I shop or am driving around.
