Just by analyzing my past relationships, or strange relationships.
I once liked a guy I worked with, and we ate dinner once (mind you, dinner was the last day I saw him). Doesn't seem like love, but I thought I was in love with him until I said goodbye. And then I was over him.
I once liked my male nurse and did obsessive things about him. I was obsessed with him for 6 whole months. However, he had no interest in me. Doesn't seem like love.
Could it be I have never been in love?

It took me months after I was out of the hospital to get over liking my male nurse. I've also had an infatuation that lasted for 3 years, even after last seeing the person back in high school. I dunno, maybe I'm just obsessed.

Sweetie, neither of these two situations sound like love to me. I cannot tell you (nor can anyone else tell you if you are in love or not). . . .that is something ou have to decide for yourself. Her is my advice for you (not that I am all that experienced or wise) but, you need to first and foremost be yourself. If you are shy that is okay but under NO circumstances act like you are someone you are not. Tell the person straight out, "I am really shy" but am interested in you because. . . . .and don't spend time obsessing over someone. It only does more and more damage to your self esteem and if you did end up with someone like that (that you were obsessed with and in such awe of) you would eventually begin to resent them treating you like a door mat. You have thoughts and feelings and deserve to be treated with respect just like everyone else. Find out what the other person is interested in and if it is not one of your intrestes read up on it so you can at least have a start for a conversation and then tell them something you are interested in (don't let the whole conversation be about them).
