You do not have to try to impress anyone that would just tick some women off. Just ask them questions about their interests and what they would like to do with their lives and just listen to them. Men always make the mistake of trying to impress women if they are on a date with you it means you have crossed the first hurdle and you do not have to go out of your way to impress them, but be a genuine caring human being and I think you will be OK.

Before I married, I always thought that the guy was super confident and I was a mere mortal. Now, I know that they must have been more nervous than me. I didn't know about this power women have over men. Just because we show a little cleavage, or paint our lips, you think you are not worthy, hence, you clamming up.
The secret is, if shes with you on the date, chances are she likes you anyway.
I would go with Lt Dans advice. Very clever man he is. Very true also.

Ask her about herself! A girl will go twenty minutes talking about her favorite subject~~herself. Just listen and make some listening type sounds like 'Uh-Huh" and "I agree" and she will think you are the best thing since sliced bread! And just a note to the wise: Don't try to play devils advocate with her nonsense babbling. Agree with whatever she says even if it is the stupidest thing you have ever heard! Later after you know her better will be time for disagreement.

I might suggest that you ask your date a lot of questions about themselves, and actually take an interest in what they say... try to just be yourself... and remember what Mia Wallace said to Vincent Vega: "You know you've found somebody special when you can just shut the fvck up and enjoy the silence together." ....or something like that.

Partner I wish I knew... Try to think of some funny anecdotes that happened to you at the fire house.. I used to tell a few funny stories from work when things were slow...
Good luck.
