Any women out there that have done a complete career change after 40 and are happy with the outcome?
Also what career change did you do and how do you balance this with raising a family?

I have and am very happy with the positive changes that it has brought to not only me but my outlook on life in general. All of my friends were planning on their retirements and what they would do with all that spare time. I had worked as a volunteer advocate for many years and after nursing for twenty years decided to work on two concurrent degrees that would lead to working as a therapist for women and girls. I specialized in addictions, vulnerable populations, and domestic violence. I don't know how long I will actually work full time but I plan on using these skills in furthering my advocacy and counselling pro bono.
I have been given a lot of blessings in my life and I would like to spend the second half helping those who could use some understanding and compassion.
My children are in their teens and early twenties and although I still work full time nursing and go to school as well we have always made that time for each other. My husband and the kids work out a schedule of helping, even if it means a meal of sandwiches made in the middle of the week when we all have busy schedules. We laugh and have fun with the attempts at making a "gourmet" meal which sometimes is hot dogs with shredded cheese. It is about sharing and caring. Even if it means lying around the living room all reading our own books. My elderly father lives with us as well and I think that it is knowing your family is there for you and available emotionally for you that is more important than doing things all the time. Sometimes all we do is go for a walk or sit for a hour or so on the swing and talk. Life is about balance and I am teaching my children that it is never too late to reach for those stars and follow those dreams.

Just a thought, but have You noticed the number of women who are going into Nursing as Mature Aged Students? Personally I feel that it is a very good thing to get Their life experiences back into the workforce.
Australia's most famous Nurse, Sister Vivian Bullwinkle retired from Nursing at the age of 69 and then got married, before starting a new career in Public Service. So You see it does not really matter Who You are, or what Your background is, You change Your lifestyle when You choose to do so, and not before.

I wasn't quite 40 but I did complete career/lifestyle change. I went from being a IT Tech and Software engineer to being a Truck Driver.

Never been happier.

I have not only had to career change, but move with a family. It's never easy. Sometimes you just have to do it.
