Actually he didnt invent much of anything. It is very likely that Leonardo was ADD or ADHD. He drew thousands of ideas in notebooks complete with backwards mirror image handwriting and little missing details so no one could copy his ideas. But since few if any of these ideas were ever actually put into practice or use, he simply conceived them - he did not invent them. Leonardo was famous for never finishing anything he started - including all of his paintings which remain incomplete to this day - INCLUDING the Mona Lisa, the Madonna of the Rocks and the Adoration of the Magi. His mind simply didnt allow him to focus. He was always off on another tangent. He became an arms and weapons designer at one point for the Sforga family of Milan and designed many terribly deadly weapons of mass destruction, but there is no real evidence that any of them were ever put into use. In fact, when they tried to recreate his design for a tank, it was discovered that the wheels moved in the opposite directions - preventing forward movement. That could have been an error on his part or simply a way to keep his true idea out of the hands of others. Leonardo was a very unsual man. Pax - C.

Among other things, Da Vinci invented a model for a helicopter, and an early parachute.
He also designed and implemented a way to put the magnificant dome on the roof of the cathedral in Florence.

Leonardo Da Vinci started out as an artist. His most famous piece of art is the Mona Lisa.
Later in his years, he was a sculptor, painter, goldsmith, bronze caster and more.
He invented the bicycle. And he had a vague idea of a plane, however, he didn't really invent it.

A lot of hot air! There is very little in a practical sense that da Vinci invented because many of his designs actually didn't work, being his flying cork-screw, revolving cannon, or horse throwing Catapult etc.
However, in all fairness, many of his designs were beyond the science of the time, and he was the chief engineer for the construction of the defensive fortifications of Rome.

As an engineer, Leonardo conceived ideas vastly ahead of his own time, conceptually inventing a helicopter, a tank, the use of concentrated solar power, a calculator, a rudimentary theory of plate tectonics, the double hull, and many others. Relatively few of his designs were constructed or were feasible during his lifetime.[3] Some of his smaller inventions such as an automated bobbin winder and a machine for testing the tensile strength of wire entered the world of manufacturing unheralded.

He was a successful military and hydraulics engineer. He designed canals, bridges and fortifications.
His inventions include a lot of machines, like helicopters and tanks. The only one that has been proven to be functional if built with materials that were available at his time is a glider.

The helicopter, the tank, and several bridges. Most of his inventions were conceptual. Of those conceptual inventions he concentrated on solar power, a calculator, and plate tectonics.
