you'll find good discussions on different saws here:

You are right to go with a mid range, you'll be around for a while and you or your friends will use it many more times.

Good Luck

Be aware that that $79 [plus $94 shipping to the UK]cutter is a "score and snap" cutter. I would NOT recommend it. It won't cut stone or porcelean tile well at all and there are many "bad snaps" with ceramic. You are much better off with a wet saw.

Nothing like good old hand tools a good tile cutter is not expencive just be sure to buy a couple of extra cutting wheels, and a cutter that will cut your size of tile, Use the saw for your fancy cuts, Now you have most of the tools for a tile job , all your friends and family will be knocking @your door Have Fun

There are various methods appropriate for tile cutting. All come in price ranges.

Depending on how much use you have for the tool, and/or how much abuse it will have to take, should determine spending, for you. Quality BTW has no degrees. Something either is or isn't. Also tool selection can be a pretty personal thing, much like religion or politics. We may all have different opinions, but in the end the choices may be based on two things,,,advertising Hype or experience.

I happen to prefer a diagonal grinder with diamond cutting blades for most small jobs, and nearly every power tool manuf. sold in the USA offers them. For large jobs I have 2 wet saws I use. There are "Breaks" that merely score a tile to snap it, and then nippers for perhaps taking off residue or a corner.

If you happen to be in the trades I suggest having all the tools available you possibly can. I'll assume that if you aren't in the States major brand names are still available to you.
