I meant to know that why people hide their true self and show a false face to gain undue advantage. Due to this, there is confusion everywhere and people who want to be true to themselves and others are viewed with suspicion. Now situation has aggravated as a thick layer of falsehood has been put on most the peoples face and people are confused as to what stuff they are made of.

A door is kept loked for a reason. It holds skeleton within that needn't be exposed time and agian. Every person is a locked door. One'll open themselves only as much as they want. The extent to which they open themselves depends on their vulnerability, security and confidence. Nobody wants to be an open book. And no one ever is. People put up masks because they fear the unmasked reflection. Only trust can make them reveal the true face. And that will not be gained through pressure or force.
Acceptance and understanding are your keys. Use them well.

Fear and insecurity. They are afraid they might be rejected if they show their true selves, perhaps. So they hide under a false or unauthentic persona. Or they may not be secure enough with themselves and not have the confidence to be who they were meant to be. I think it's a psychological survival tool created so people can survive in the social world. Some people want to fit in and may put on a "mask" so they will be accepted or liked more and/or hide an aspect of themselves that they don't want to reveal to others.

Many people are afraid that other's wouldn't like them if they knew what they're really like. I don't believe that most people hide themselves from others because they want to take advantage of others.

If you find this to be true you need new friends. The old adage that you can judge a person by the friends they keep has a lot of truth in it.

You pretty much have answered your own question. People are often afraid of another persons reaction to them, and so they "put a mask on" then what happens is that they have to continue to do this, because others think they were being who they "REALLY WERE" . My answer is to be who you are.. and if others don't like you, and some won't, they can just move on. Meanwhile you won't have to remember a bunch of things just so people will like you. We all need to be true to ourselves first, before we can be a true friend to others.

In my experience people put on a mask to hide who they really are so that if they are rejected it won't hurt as bad. People will also pretend to be someone or something they are not to get ahead in life, I for one, feel that it's too high of a price to pay, not to mention exhausting. If you go around pretending to be something other than who you are, you are working at a job 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for really lousy pay. For myself, I am who I am, what you see is pretty much what you get and if someone doesn't like it that's their choice, and their problem. I have a busy life and i don't need to complicate it by caring what others think of me.

The time has caused this phenomena. Now people consider several things like their relationship, status, ego etc. in revealing them self and in the bargain they hide their true colour. They will project themselves in a way which they feel suits them the most as per the circumstances.

I don't know about your housemate, but from the intensely detailed diary you are keeping of his activities, you're paying a LOT more attention to him than I would expect from the average straight boy. So he's your HOUSEMATE. So what? You don't need to "feel afraid" if he's gay -- gays and lesbians are not all, (phobe propaganda to the contrary), some kind of lust-maddened maniacs who go around humping anything that moves. We are JUST LIKE YOU... unless, of course, YOU are a lust-maddened maniac. He's your friend, right? If he were gay and inclined to grab your fine behind, he WOULD HAVE DONE THIS BY NOW. Take a deep breath and relax and mind your own sex life.

Why do you say that said mask is worn by individuals!

Governments and societies wear said mask! Even communities "having unethical interests to be protected for their own sake" do wear said masks! By saying "people" you have diluted intensity of matter you have raised!

Look at democracy! Except for 'a freedom to act' ,which also protects individual's privacy (decide yourself if individuals privacy is beneficial or harmful to society), democracy is not different from communism, (which upholds a human right to fight against human exploitations).

Look at education front! Human beings have a right to get educated based on best available knowledge. What we see today is "said best available knowledge" is taught 'by first making it inconceivable to public' and then claiming patents on it (for commercial exploitation).

Governments and corporates join hands together by allowing corporates to frame unethical rules (which disregards fundamental rights assured by a Government to citizen) and said unethical rules are forced on employees by corporates!

The matter you have stated is "true" at a level of individual, which is mere extensions of facts I have stated above!

If you are strong enough you may resist it else succumb to it!

Why do people always worrying about people afraid to show their true colours?
What are they gonna do if people do show their true colours?

Well anyway, I am not afraid of judging people. And plus
I sometimes let people judge me so I can improve myself.

And plus I am not afraid to confront people how I feel about them.

A mask hides people from getting hurt. Its better to be someone else, then you can say it wasnt really me.
