No worries mate, it could be because of;
Loose oil filter
Busted filter seal
Loose drain plug
Oil pan gasket
Crank shaft seals
Busted shift rod seal
Busted oil cooler or lines (if there is)
Leaking tranny plug (if manual)
Tranny pan seal (if auto)
Busted tranny cooling system (if auto) (radiator has to be replaced)

I work in a garage, and oil leaks sometimes even fool us. If its jsut started then you can usually see wehre its leaking from, but if its been leaking for a wile (like it sounds like it has been) an engine shampoo is in order (not at a car wash, but at a garage, so the upper and lower sides of the engine is done). I've had to do this on probably 75% of the vehicle I have checked for oil leaks on. I then give it back to the customer and tell them to drive it for a week and bring it back for a recheck of the leaks. With the eingine clean, and after driveing it for a few days you can usually see where its leaking from. Take it to a garage for an initial inspection, if needed, have it shampooed, then go from there.

(engine shampoo is with some pretty costic chemicals, that eat away at old oil. also, using a pressure washer with a 5degree nozle gets the hard old oil. It won't hurt anything as long as you stay away from directly hitting electrical connections (hitting them and keeping the pressure on them), and after the shampoo is done take the distributor cap off and blow it clean, water vapor will get into the cap by the vent tube and will cause the vehicle to misfire, also do the same at the spark plugs, along with wires, and as many electrical componants to reduce the chances of shorting componants out. this should be done at a garage so the under side of the engine can be completly done as well, not all oil leaks will be visable from the top of the engine.)

First get the engine warm, get some engine degrease and spray the engine top to bottom wait 10 minuets then wash off with water hose (it wont hurt nothing). Start engine and watch for the leak. The oil light sending switch is the most likely cause if it just started all of a sudden next the front could be a timing seal, rear could be an oil pan gasket or seal. Do your self a favor and get two separate mechanics to look at it before you spend any money for a repair. Good Luck and GOD Bless the

The most common leak is engine oil leaking past the valve cover gaskets.
There are two on V-6 and V-8 engines. And they are fairly easy to replace. A couple hundred bucks parts and labor.
