No contest is basically the same as a guilty plea. If you mark the not guilty box you will have to go to court and try to prove you were not guilty. If you plan on paying the ticket but can't afford to right now. Call the number on the back of the ticket and ask the court for an extension on paying your fine. Most courts and judges will give extensions on payment. Don't be afraid to call, because if you don't pay or notify the court that you can't pay right now. There will be a warrant issued for your arrest and than it gets really stupid.
So, you do have some options here and don't be afraid to ask for more time. The worst they can do is say no at this point. gl.

I would guess that either way you end up in traffic court. In my state, your court date is right on the ticket. You will get to see a judge and probably receive the same fine you would if you had paid it. You just don't have to pay it right now.

No contest, you have to pay. Not guilty you will have to fight it in court. If it's overdue chances are you already have a warrant out for you.

go to court and if you are found guilty spend the afternoon in jail.
depending on the state they take $200 a day off your fine for sitting in the town jail.

I would go straight to the City Hall and tell them the truth. They will find the least painful way for you to deal with your problem. There is still hope, but it may cost more now. Don't ignore it.
