English IS the main language for the United States of America. More people speak english here than any other language.

However, if what you mean to ask is, why isn't english the official language of the USA? That is a different story.

In short the First Amendment of the Constitution of the United States can be construed to mean that the government can not insist that someone speaks or uses a specific language. The reason being that they have the consitutional right to freedom of expression and so may express themselves anyway they like as long as they aren't creating a public hazard.

And so speaking is a fundamental way we express ourselves and so the way you speak is covered and that means in whatever language you want to express yourself in.

Some folks may like to blame weak backbones in whatever political group they dislike. However, they aren't looking to history. Go back 100 years. Still no official language. Go back 150 years. Still no official language. Okay go back to 1807, 200 years ago and still not official language. It isn't about the political party. It IS about the Constitution protecting the way you speak including the language you use.

And that is why the USA has no official language.

"Por la gran puta grand puta"

Please don't cuss at me.

If English is not the main language in the USA what then are the main languagues. The United States of America is very large with different religions and people from all over the world.Their main official language is English and the reason why other languages are applied there is for the fact that there are a lot of individuals who come from different works of life and they try to bring in their languages into the Country or where they find themselves.English is the accepted and recognised Language in the States as at today.........
To me There is no other accepted Language in the States.

I thought it was the official language of the US, especially when the US saw all the baloney we have to deal with in Canada over bilingualism. But if more people speak Spanish than English then that's probably because of all the Illegals.

I agree with Bill O'reilly, "English is the language of prosperity". Learn it, or be left behind.

I know English and I'm not very prosperous, but that's beside the point.

English is the main language in the USA the reason for all the Spanish crap you see on the side of products is because people who come into the USA to live from a non English speaking countries are too lazy to learn English also English is taught in all schools where other languages are taught as a second or third language

English is the main language used in the United States. All official documents can be found in English in this country. While English is not the official language, the vast majority of people in the United States speak English.

English is the primary language spoken in the united states; the vast majority of the people living there speak it. That's just a fact.

Bilingual classes will exist in areas where there aren't as many english speakers. Just because english speakers are a majority in the country as a whole does not mean that they are the majority in every individual town or city in the country.

Learning other languages has nothing to do with America's official language. It's for people who are going to advance in life. It's just proving you're able to learn overall, and most people who become doctors, or whatever, usually have to travel to another country for a short period of time to learn about others culture.

English is the main language. When did that happen? I think if immigrants want to live in our country, speak our language. Chinese,Taiwan's do . Don't go into Canada and not speak what they speak.I don't want my tax money going to teach a person a new language so the lazy immigrant don't have to learn English. They need to get off their butt and go to a free school and learn the language of their new home.Ask any immigrant if they speak English and most will so no.But say You have won the lottery in English and they will understand it very well.I have seen it happen.

Well there was a time when English was the main language for The U.S.A.. However that was before our government started kissing every immigrant on the rear. And yes, it makes perfect sense that Americans should learn 155 languages so we will understand what your wants, needs and don't forget demands are. As opposed to the immigrant learning English. What a thoughtless lot are we.
