Parents are affraid to talk to their children now and get involved in their lives cuz they might not be COOL. It's human nature to except the path of least resistance, and talking to a child about a certain issue and problems can create alot of resistance, but getting the point through to their brains takes time and skill. So rather than dealing, they just ignore. Too many children are being handed down adult responsibilities, and being left alone. And too many parents are becoming child like. If you are mature enough to have sex, then you must be mature enough to take care of a child, but not necessarily always the case. Easy solution to a nationwide problem....OPEN YOUR BOOKS AND NOT YOUR LEGS!!!

While you did not state your age, I am assuming that you might possibly be in high school.
I live in New Mexico and the town where I live has a VERY HIGH RATE OF PREGNANCY!!! I see girls as young as 13 or 14 getting pregnant and wonder if the mother and/or the father of these kids have their head in the sand to not realize what is going on.
There do seem to be quite a few teens in high school that are pregnant. They even set up a day care for the new mothers so that they could continue their education - but the bad thing is some of these same girls have gone on and had another child while still in high school!!! Didn't they figure out what was going on after the first time or did they just think it wouldn't happen again?????

According to statistics it's declining:
"The teenage birth rate in United States was 42 births per 1,000 women aged 15–19 in 2002.[12], the highest in the developed world.[4] If all pregnancies, including those which end in abortion or miscarriage, are taken into account, then the total rate in 2000 was 75.4 pregnancies per 1,000 girls. Nevada and the District of Columbia have the highest teen pregnancy rates in the U.S., while North Dakota has the lowest. [12] 95% of teenage pregnancies in the U.S. are unintended; approximately one third end in abortion, one third end in spontaneous miscarriage, and one third will continue their pregnancy and keep their baby. [13]
However, the trend is decreasing: in 1990, the birth rate was 61.8, and the pregnancy rate 116.9 per thousand. This decline has manifested across all racial groups, although teenagers of African-American and Hispanic descent retain a higher rate, in comparison to that of European-Americans and Asian-Americans. The Guttmacher Institute attributed about 25% of the decline to abstinence and 75% to the effective use of contraceptives. [12]"

Parents should start acting like parents, and stop trying to be friends. If there were more parent/child communication and trust, then the early age pregnancy rate would probably go down.

That use to never be heard of but now in this day and age our society is very acceptive of casual sex and the younger generation is seeing this in their peers, and especially the media. It's sad.
