not any less patriotic than the Canadian hockey players (and other countries too), to pocket the mostly-American wages that they receive

nice try

Basketball is a Canadian import too, you know. We didn't invent soccer, but Americans coined the phrase "soccer mom" because there's hardly a kid in the entire country who hasn't played AYSO. Nobody is insignificant, either. What could be more patriotic than supporting something that causes Americans to come into contact with others from diverse backgrounds and cultures, serving to strengthen international ties and global understanding? Besides, hockey is the greatest sport ever invented, and we fans have more important things to worry about than if we're doing enough flag-waving. That can be saved for the Olympics. Right now, it's all about the big shiny at the end of the playoffs!

Since when does patriotism and sports have anything to do with each other? Especially in hockey because the NHL is part of two countries. Barely anything was established in the US. 25 of the 30 NHL teams are in the States, and you think its unpatriotic for us to support that league? You are crazy in the head. I could go on and on about why the NHL is a great league. I'm not very fond of the people who run it, but it is still the major league in hockey for North America (see the 'America' part in that?)

Fans identify with their home cities, not the nationalities of the players on the team. However, we do root a little harder for any American player that's on our team. Out of the 30 teams in the NHL, only 6 are from Canada. It is an American league, whether those north of the border will admit it or not. It is not an act of patriotism to support your favorite professional sports team. There is no way that anyone could consider it unpatriotic

Guess Pirates fans better start booing one of our best players, Jason Bay, since he is Canadian. About the only sport we really invented was football. Almost every other sport was played in other forms, just not by their name, up until then. Basketball is an ancient game if you go to what the basic idea is - shooting a ball into a hoop. Most sports have been around forever. Guess Americans shouldn't support sports in general by that thought. I don't care where the players come from. I don't care who invented it. Although it really has nothing to do with being patrotic to support a sport or not.

The NHL teams hire many local people to work in the arenas and team offices etc. Bars and restaurants near the stadium make extra money on game nights. The teams pay taxes and rent and draw tourism. Also youngsters see a hockey game and dream of playing in the NHL, so young Americans play more and therefore make the US National team better, that could lead to medals
Sounds to me like cheering for and supporting any sports event is patriotic

patriotic?? I don't really know how to answer that, because I never felt being a fan of any sport was patriotic. In the Olympics, sure, but not our professional sports leagues. I don't see anything wrong with supporting the NHL. Canadiens think they created hockey, but it was actually created in Europe and brought over, so should North America not even have a league? That's ridiculous.

NHL is the best sport there is....doesn't matter who plays it or who invented it.

Patriotism has nothing to do with following a sport, but if you're that concerned about it...by all means stop following hockey and stick with some "American sport" like full contact Scrabble.

And I'm willing to bet that Mr. Patriot asking this question probably drives a Japanese car :p

Do I need to wear a team USA jersey when I play, so I can be a patriot?? I dont even know why i answer these stupid questions like this.

You did not invent basketball either ... your thoughts on that ?

Not sure how it is un-patriotic to support a team in the NHL.

When I take a break from building my doomsday bunker, I like to take in a little bit of biscuit. I do so with vigilance and attired in star spangled glory.

Questions like this have to be a sign of the apocalypse. Let's hope the games don't go into OT tonight or I may not finish the bunker in time.
