Yes typically that would be earlier than usual but since you are showing signs that you may go early that is why they are doing it now. When I was pregnant with my 1st son they did the test at 36 weeks and my water broke before they got the results back so that had to treat me as though I had it. When I was pregnant with my 2nd child they did the Group B strep test at 34 weeks just in case I went early again. You're pretty close to when they normally do the test so I wouldn't worry about it'd be different if you were 32 weeks or less then I think I'd be requesting them to redo at around 36 weeks but in your case it sounds like they are trying to get it done now because you've already started dialating. Good Luck on your upcoming labor/deliver and Congrats.

Make sure you get the steroid shot for the lungs too while you are there just in case. It helps the lungs mature faster in case of early delivery. I usually get tested around 30 weeks because I too dilate early. She is trying to be cautious because strep b can be dangerous for your baby and cause your baby to have to spend unnecessary time in the NICU. This test at 2cm is strongly recommended. Good luck. Also, ask about the FFN test to check to see if your baby will be coming sooner than planned. This is a cotton swab of the cervix. Easy and helpful unless you are the 1% like me that it does not work on.

I had mine done at 36 weeks, so I don't think 2 weeks before that would make much of a difference.

She might be doing the test earlier because you are already dilated. She probably just wants to know if you have it, just in case you deliver earlier. Better to be safe than sorry.
