A lot of people use the word "resin" to refer to various things (...which is different from "rosin" but related, I think).

You are probably wanting a polyester resin or an epoxy resin though (you didn't say exactly how it would be used with your 1/24 models, so can't be sure).
Those are probably the two most commonly used resins by crafters.

Two-part *polyester* resins are also called "casting" resins because they can be poured deeply into molds, but they're also used for making fiberglass, etc. These are mixed with a large amount of one part to a small amount of "catalyst."

Two-part *epoxy* resins can also be cast in molds (though not very deeply but can make layers)... they're usually brushed or poured on. These are usually mixed one to one. They can be used as fake water and in various other ways.

If you want to read more about those, and some of the brand names for them, and supply sources, this page at my site would be one place to start:

If your making your own models or other hard plastic (resin) pieces you'll need:
1. Mold release, rubber gloves, mixing/stir sticks, clamps/bike tire tubes, box cutter/xacto knife. Lots of newspaper as this stuff is really sticky and messy.
2. Mold making material such as liquid Dow Corning Silastic, or some other silicone rubber and catalyst.
3. Mixing containers and container to hold the piece you plan on casting (making a replica of). Or can use floral foam to make your own item to cast. Secure the item you want to make a mold of into a large enough open container and pour the Silicone over it to make a mold. Once the mold has hardened, cut the mold in half and remove your object.
4. Alumilite Resin and catalyst or another brand. Now clamp the mold together and fill with the resin, once hardened you are done, you now a have a hard piece of plastic to paint.

You can buy Alumilite and Dow Corning brands on the internet or other brands at Home Depot or craft stores.

Resin has a plastic like consistency. You can buy it in cans at hobby shops. You will also need to purchase a catalyst if it does not come with it. You can use resin to make all kinds of neat things. It can be used as water in a pond on a train set. You can pour it into a mold to make any number of things.

You may want to check out the forums at modelcarsmagazine.com, the forum has people that have built everything from 1:87 to 1:4 scale. There are also a number of resin casters that share their new castings.

im not sure how available it is to use at home, its a form of plastic, you used to be able to buy clear casting resin, and you need a catylist to mix with it, then you cast the stuff in a mold with things like shells and so on in the mold, you can color some of it with special colorings to make the bottom an opaque color, so you could cast a sand colored base at the end of the process and the shells would look like a little beach scene.

Resin results when a number of simple molecular of low molecular weight become jointed together and to end to form much longer molecules which may be linear or linear molecules cross-linked.

Resin is a substance that comes from plants. It forms to be a hard substance, and it is used on violin strings and other such strings. I think it can also be used in a glue-like form.
