What an interesting question! Maybe you could take one country from each region and describe what happened to it when the colonizing country withdrew. There are some success stories, but also some countries are still trying to get their crap together.

Almost all countries of Latin America got their independence in the beggining of the XIXth century, so I don't see how the region fits in your question.
