It depends on the mess you're dealing with. First of all don't get hurt! That being said; rip the sticky part and stop and see that you are not going to rip up a scab that has attached to the dry bandage area. The best protection is provided by mother nature and is or should have been the reason for the bandage in the first place --ie. allow nature to run its course. A bit of common sense should of been applied and that is causing blood to flow from the injury site is not good practice. Let natures' bandage run its course. Do no harm!

That depends on where they put it, if it's on a lot of hair, I will peel it off slowly, and if there is no hair, I'll rip it off real quick

Mostly rip it off. I've tried both and I think that slow way hurts a lot more.
