Orange is a symbolic color of Scotland and also one of Protestants.... so unless you are talking about Orange County California or Florida (where it denotes citrus growing), it is probably due to the number of Scots and/or Protestants who settled that area as America was growing.

Most likely because of copy cating. I can understand California, and Florida having Orange Counties, and maybe a few other warm southern states that do have an Orange crop. But, Orange county New York..and so on ..I don't know. I guess when the states were being established, they just liked the sound of it...

New jersey has cities called..Orange, East Orange, West Orange, And South Orange...and Ill tell you all my years living in new Jersey, I never saw anyone growing oranges!!!

A lot of the Orange Counties in the USA used to grow Oranges. They were all farms and they made way for the city to move in. the orange groves quietly faded into the sunset.

I know that Orange County, Florida is named after the fruit because it is a major industry in the area.

There are only 8 Orange counties, CA, FL, IN, NY, NC, TX, VT, VA and Orangeburg Co in SC. I would say the most common county name is Washington (though not for sure). So I guess your assumption of all the "Orange counties" is wrong.

Or, perchance you in simple terms mean that we may be able to stay a "United" States through doing basically what you want to do.
