I used a new bath skin softening product in my whirlpool tub that is supposed to be safe for those tubs. It left a horrible sticky residue in the tub that I can't get out. The tub instructions say only to use Dawn or **** N Span to clean the tub with. Neither of these worked and I aso tried vinegar, which didn't work either. The tub has a glossy finish so it will scratch. Anyone have any recommendations for a cleaning product that will work and not scratch the tub?

I wouldn't recommend Krud Kutter as it is a very harsh chemical that can strip some surfaces. I would try Simple Green, which is an environmentally friendly product that does a great job cutting through greasy/waxy buildup. Cut the concentrate 50/50 with water in a spray bottle and spray onto the surface. Allow it to sit for a bit before using a blue Scotch Brite scrubby sponge to clean. The blue Scotch Brite won't scratch delicate surfaces.

Dawn will work just fine, but you WILL want to add an anti-sudsing agent (sold near the carpet cleaners) or you will end up with one heck of a bubble bath.
Alternatively, you can use dishwasher detergent (the liquid kind), which is actually what most tub manufacturers recommend. It's not harsh to the surface, doesn't suds, rinses clean and doesn't promote mold growth like other soaps.

Other cleaners (including ****-n-span) will dull or scratch the surface.

In the future, don't use anything but hot water in a whirlpool tub.

You were on the right track with vinegar. First sprinkle baking soda liberally all over the bottom, then splash in the vinegar. Don;t worry about the bubbling, it's suppose to do that. Then use a sponge with a scrubby on one side. None of these things will hurt the finish. They will remove the sticky gunk you have. They also are great for keeping your drains clear. It's the only cleaners I ever use on enamel. Do it, and you'll have a nice soak in the tub again!

K-Mart sells a product called Krudd Kutter. It cleans anything I have tried it on and it is water based. After cleaning, I would run the pumps, to remove any residue there.
