Well, it's VERY VERY VERY unlikely. It's not impossible but it's just not very likely at all.

If there were advanced alien civilizations observing us, because they are much more advanced, and presumably we would not be the first "alien" life-forms they have encountered, there could be rules of "first contact" like in the Star Trek series.

We KNOW for instance based on human history, that first-contact situations are generally VERY BAD for the less advanced civilization or civilization on the "receiving" end of the visit. Just ask the Aztec, Incas or Mayan peoples how well their encounters with the Europeans went.

The Chinese, Indians and African's didn't exactly have it easy either.

About the only civilization that didn't get totally screwed by a first contact situation was Shogun Tokogawa's Imperial Japan who constrained and then forcibly expelled or exterminated the Spanish and Dutch explorers from the 1590-1620's when they tried to introduce missionary Christianity to Japan. Although, Imperial Japan found itself "significantly disadvantaged" 200-250 years later when the Gaijin (Japanese for alien), came back , this time (July 8,1853) four black/ironsided ships led by USS Powhatan and commaned by Commodore Perry and a whole a bunch of rifles and artillery wasn't about to take NO for an answer with regard to a trade delegation with Japan.

This first-contact situation , more than almost any other is a spectacular argument FOR serious and deep space exploration because it would - just be better for everyone - if we found them first.

Have you ever heard the expression, anythings possible With that said, their are according to the Drake formula, there are many, many billions of planets that could support life, in the universe. The distances are for-boding, but there may be civilizations out there that may have survived their rapid technological ages, and be even billions of years more advanced than we are. In all that time they would have developed some mode of travel that could reach here from wherever there is, by now. Maybe something that is nearly instantaneous, some sort of teleportation, wormholes might turn out to be helpful, mayby the laws of physics can be broken and with the right guidance system, faster than light speed is possible, maybe many times. We may never know the answer to that one. As to why they might hide, well if I could, I might hide too, considering how hostile we all can still be too each other. It would be something to talk to some of these other lifeforms, just think what we might learn.

k heres my thory on this if you traveled several trillion light years to visit a planet and then found that they were killing each other and theres all this hostility would you park your space ship at area 51 walk up and knock on the door and say hi im from another planet and im here to talk and befriend you the answere is no id be upset i wasted the fuel to drive this far and not be able to see anyone cause you know if you did show yourself withing an hour youd be in a cell and being studied and youd never be released at least thats my theory

How do you know they are hiding from us? Have you ever asked yourself what to look for? Do you really know what an extraterrestrial looks like? If ET visitation is viable who would explain this to you? If "they" can get here from there what purpose would it serve to disrupt the perceptions of human prevailing thought? Remember, if these "aliens" are truly real and have evolved to a spiritual awareness that has allowed them to survive, would an ET throw a monkey wrench into their own agenda? Let me ask you this. If you are a Christian and landed in the middle an Islamic Fundamentalist community would you spread the gospel according to the bible?

Exactly.

"The X-Files" series promoted the idea that our government got into an agreement with malevolent aliens and spawned a tidal wave of believers that cling to that and other preposterous notions about us being kidnapped and experimented upon.

If I were able to visit another planet and had the capability to do what the abduction believers purport, I would not be that subtle and I doubt that a species intent on taking over our world would need to ask any government for their permission to do so.

It's just so absurd what I hear on television and that radio show.

I think that the alien visitation community are not much different than religious zealots. They conveniently rely on extraordinary possibility, dance around the practical and pragmatic, and just love their scary little campfire stories.

Sure, bacteria from other planets that have been alive over thirty years is alien life to me. Anything is possible.

Aliens are out there in the droves but none ever will or ever has visited earth.
Their intelligence and technology probably parallels ours pretty closely but they will probably always remain theoretical entities.
they probably theorize and think about us in the same way we do about them.

why do we think of aliens as having emotions like humans?
what whould happen if they were basically simpletons who were basically just smart at 1 or 2 different things..
