Do you use qoute in first-person writing?

For example my question is which one would be right.
( I think my money is on the first right now)

1. " Oh my gosh" I said as I jumped up and down
or
2. Oh my gosh I said while jumping

The first one is more grammatically right, but in creative writing, you have a bit of freedom - even if you use the second one, it *should* be OK for most people. But I do believe it's only in creative writing (or call it "informal writing") that it's acceptable. If you're going by pure grammar rules, only the first one is correct.

I would use the quotation marks even while writing in the first person. However, I have noticed that in many novels, they don't use the quotation marks, possibly to save on labor! Possibly the meaning would be clear in some situations even without the quotation marks.
