As a hand knitter, I would have to say hand knitted sock are the best there are...and if my family members don't each get a pair for either birthdays or Christmas, I get in trouble! But if your budget is the deciding factor, better stick to the machine knitted ones.

I'm not sure what you mean by "woven" socks but with hand knitted socks vs machine knitted socks I'd choose the hand knitted. If some one really knows how to knit socks, they will make socks that don't have a welt on the toes that can cause blisters and they will fit your feet. If you have a high arch, longer middle toes, wide or narrow feet, hand knitted socks can be patterned to the shape of your foot. Machine knitted socks can't be made to fit those unique shapes. Hand knitted socks can be made of very fine yarns too.

Machine knitted socks are kind of thick and they might chafe or bunch up in your shoes. But they are better for wearing as house slippers.

socks are not woven, all socks i have ever seen are knitted and mostly machine made.
