when my macintosh MacBook is unplugged from the power cable it shuts down and will not turn back on unless the power cable is in. How do i fix my laptop so that the battery will charge and i will be able to use it without the power cable plugged into it?

Call Apple tech support.

Run Software Update to see if there are any firmware updates that addresses the problem, there was one on the 27th.
Reset SMC.

You shorted it somehow. Take it back to the Apple store and have them repair it. I hope you have AppleCare or a relatively new machine.
