The black thing on the front that the drill bit goes into is two parts. Hold the part closest to the handle and rotate the part closest to the drill bit. The jaws will open, allowing you to remove the bit.

Stuart is right, This is the only problem I have with the DeWalt, the self tightening chuck, sometimes I wonder if new proceedures are really that good.
My 1/2 inch drill will lock sometimes and that's it. I have to tighten a 18 inch pipe wrench on it to remove the bit.

use a little amount of blaster penetrating lubricant then using a rag grab the top 2-3Rd's of drill with it in reverse pull trigger it should spin loose if not try a couple more times if still nothing tap on bit like a nail lightly then try again still nothing good luck.
