I don't think you are confused.
They kill each other for the same reason they kill elsewhere. Islam says that if you do not accept Allah, you are an infidel. All infidels must convert, or die (according to some interpretations). Like all religions, there are differing branches. And each branch thinks they have the right of it, meaning that the other branch is the "true" infidel.
This particular issue as raged for nearly two thousand years.
What US Americans needs to understand is that most of us don't adhere to their particular religion . . . which makes us the infidel, the enemy.

For the same reason that Catholic and Protestant Christians used to kill each other: there are different sects of Islam, with different beliefs. In Islam, the rift traces back to the period immediately following the Prophet Muhammad's death. One of Muhammad's followers, Abu Bakr, was chosen as the successor because he was older and wiser than the other candidate, Muhammad's cousin Ali. Many others felt that because Ali was a blood relation of Muhammad, he was the rightful successor. This started the Sunni-Shi'ite split that still exists today (the Shi'a were the followers of Ali, who still believe that the rightful leaders of Islam must be directly related to the Prophet). Throughout the centuries, many wars have been fought between the two sects. The current violence in Iraq may be seen as a continuation of these ancient feuds.

Because that's what Islam is,do it their way or they kill you. Even if it's another group of Muslims. It has always been that way and most likely always will be. They will only have peace when they are all dead,or when they decide they love their children more than they hate each other and everybody else. I'm thinking the all dead option is the most likely to eventually bring paece to the Muslim world.

They hate each other. They have little regard for human life. They hate those who are not Muslims. You might be next depending upon where you live and other risk factors.
Why don't you study a little history about Islam? Study about the different groups and their beliefs. You will then know that none can be trusted by an outsider. If you are not one of them, then they will kill you given the opportunity. That goes for fellow Muslims who are not "one of them".

Soon after the death of the Prophet Muhammad, in the year 632 AD. There was a dispute in the community of Muslims in present-day Saudi Arabia over the question of succession.
Most of the Prophet Muhammad's followers wanted the community of Muslims to determine who would succeed him. A smaller group thought that someone from his family should take up his mantle. They favored Ali, who was married to Muhammad's daughter, Fatimah.
"Shia believed that leadership should stay within the family of the Prophet," notes Gregory Gause, professor of Middle East politics at the University of Vermont. "And thus they were the partisans of Ali, his cousin and son-in-law. Sunnis believed that leadership should fall to the person who was deemed by the elite of the community to be best able to lead the community. And it was fundamentally that political division that began the Sunni-Shia split."
The Sunnis prevailed and chose a successor to be the first caliph.

They seem to have theological differences. To reasonable people they seem obscure. To a zealot they must mean a lot. Here's an excerpt:
In Sunni Islam, wudu consists of washing the hands, mouth, face, nose, arms, forehead and hair, ears and feet three times each in that order. Shia Muslims first wash their faces, then their arms, and then wipe their heads and feet with the moisture on their hands. Tayammum consists of wiping only the hands and face with sand or dust.

Before they were Muslims they were Arabs, Babylonians, and Persians. Babylonians are from Iraq. Persians are from Iran. I don't know where Arabs came from. They all hated each other before finding the "religion of peace". Muslims are divided by Shiites and Sunnies. Shiites hate Sunnies. So you have Persian Shiites that hate and try to kill Persian Sunnies. Or Arab Sunnies hating and trying to kill Babylonian Shiites. Or whatever combination you can think of. But they all hate Jews. They don't really care for Palestinians either. Which is why Palestinians are not welcome in their countries. But that's the religion of peace for you.

Sunnis and Shiites are different sects of Islam who disagree with each other, often to the point of being willing to commit heinous crimes against each other for those disagreements. Different Jihadi factions also frequently fight over more mundane issues such as money and power.

The difference between the shias and sunnis is purely political. Its like the difference between the dems and the repubs.
