Is it true that Israel has attacked more surrounding areas, than vice versa?

My roommate is from Egypt and swears that Israel is nuts, and always attacks first. Is this true? I always thought it was the other way around, but it could be our media's biased opinion.

In 1967 Egypt, Jordan and Syria got together to attack Israel from nearby lands; this is when Israel took control of the lands that the attacks were being launched from, in self defense. The results of this war are still being felt.
This will tell you that the Egyptian point of view here is probably distorted. I don't mean that your Egyptian roommate is lying, but that the version of events taught there may not be accurate.

If you don't consider having your neighbors shoot rockets and mortar bombs into your yard provocative, she may have a point. In one of the Arab-Israeli Wars, they had good intelligence and their air-strikes went in an hour or two before the Egyptians were to launch their "surprise" attack, but I think it's also a bit disingenuous to say Israel struck first there, too, considering that the Egyptian army had its orders to attack before the IDF cobbled together a last-minute pre-emptive strike.

Yes it is true. They get millions in "military aid" from the US on a daily basis to bomb homeless christians in Gaza. I think the US itself is the only country attacking the middle east more than Israel. But they do put up a stiff competition.
