I tell him they are dangerous and he doesn't believe me. Help me to get him to understand that a stationary walker is perfectly fine.

The arguments that I've heard about the dangers are that the child will fall down a flight of stairs. That isn't the fault of the walker, it's the fault of the parents.

I just found this, and these could all be avoided if the child was being supervised:

Roll down the stairs - which can cause broken bones and head injuries. This is how most children get hurt in baby walkers.
Get burned - a child can reach higher when in a walker. A cup of hot coffee on the table, pot handles on the stove, a radiator, fireplace, or space heater are all now in baby's reach.
Drown - a child can fall into a pool, bathtub, or toilet while in a walker.
Be poisoned - reaching high objects is easier in a walker.
Pinch fingers and toes - by getting them caught between the walker and furniture. .

I had 4 babies--- I had a mobile walker w/ the first one, a stationary with the 2nd.. HE HATED IT!!!! I got him a mobile walker and he was good! Stuck with mobile from then on! I agree that mobile walkers are not the problem it is the parents that need to be aware of what the dangers will be. I loved the mobile b/c when the babies get to the stage that you cannot walk out of the room w/o them screaming (they all go through it) they could just use their walker and get me in sight! Babies love being mobile, I think that this is the only way to go! If you have stairs you need a good sturdy gate anyway so you would not have to worry about that! Good Luck

I had one for my daughter and she never got hurt in it, we never had a problem, when she was in it we watched her and followed her and where she went. She walked just fine when she did take her first steps, I guess we never had a problem with our's. I know this doesn't answer your question, but honestly many of the problems people have with the mobile walkers are because the parents didn't supervise or blown way out of proportion.

I used a mobile walker with my son and he loved it. He was able to go where we were by himself. He never tipped over, never grabbed hot stuff, never got poisoned, never fell down stairs, etc. But, I watched him. Not like a hawk, but like a mom.

His walking is not screwed up. He started walking at 9 months, and was a full time walker at 10 months.

They are fine as long as you are a responsible parent and don't, as someone else said, use them as babysitters and assume you don't need to keep your eye on them.

They're not dangerous honey.....they only got that stereotype because too many parents used them as babysitters and were not watching the baby as they were supposed to. Just do not let it around stairs and always watch your child. Also do not let your baby sit in it for hours on end.

They are not safe as the can impede a babies leg muscles. They are actually out-lawed in Canada. I would never put my child in a walker. Talk him into a Exer-saucer instead. My kids loved them alot more.

I agree with the thumbs up people. once he sees your kid learning to maneuver that thing each day by day he will be amazed. my son got his when he was 5 months and now 8 months and he knows how to drive the thing it cracks me up to seee how fast they grow. Ask him why he thinks it's dagerous and tell him that the reason why i tis dangerous and it's listed on your answers with the thumbs up on them.

my son used a mobile walker and he didn't die nor get hurt. just keep him/her away from the stairs and put things that he/she could get into away. and keep an eye on him/her.
