Do you think it's better to give than to receive? For instance if someone gave you a million quid on the understanding that you gave half of it away. (Not very likely I know!) Would you really get more pleasure from giving the half away or from getting your hands on your half ?

I can give an answer to this my way. I am not talking about material things. In my job I see scared people all the time. I work in a hospital theatre. I believe that I give to patients that need. I have what I consider to be a gift. I can make people laugh. I can ridicule myself for other people to laugh at me. Laughter does a lot to ease pain in a lot of ways. I love to do it. I have been told on ocassion that it helped people forget what was going to happen. That to me is far more important than money or wealth. I consider it`s giving them a relief from the fear that they feel. It makes me feel good as well so in a way I recieve from them. We both win..

Of course, it feels good to help someone else out, but also part of the truth of the saying is that, when you're in the position where you can give to others, it means that your own situation is good, you've already got what you need to be happy.

Yes, I think giving the half away -- who would you give it to? a family with young children? would you buy your mom a house? would you send someone to school who wouldn't otherwise been able to afford it? -- would be much more fun and satisfying than spending the other half on silly things for myself.

I'd get some pleasure from giving that money away, but because the money wasn't worked for and came from nowhere, I don't think it would feel as good as If I had earned the money,, then giving it away would make me feel so much better.

Personally I'd get more pleasure from my half and unless they had a rock solid legal document forcing me to I'd keep the whole million and just lie to get my hands on it.

Honestly, if I had that much money, I would give much of it away anyway. Part of the reason that I would appreciate having the money would be that I would be able to give it to others who might need it more than me. I'm not sure where that leaves me in regard to your original question... I guess the answer is yes.

May God bless you.

i would give half away with pleasure you know when i was a child we had a handycapt boy living over the road and every time i had a new toy i would take it over and give it to him just to see the smile on his face.i spoke to his mother about two months ago after around 15 years and do you know she told me the boy only said one word in his life and that was my name..so yes i would give half away to someone who needs and deserves it

When they reach maturity yes, but thise who are used to having everything given to them freely and never have to pick up after themselves never have to grow up and so dont mature, and never learn the joy of giving and in doing so end up getting so much good feeling and karma back that it pays off more than you ever thought you had lost by giving in the first place.

It's always better to give. Especially if you're in prison with a cell mate called "Bubba".
