Same here. I get teased because I'm a Chinese and I'm here at the Philippines. I look different from them and they think it's fun to do it. Maybe you're in a different country. It's like that and the only way to combat it is to feel comfortable with yourself. That's your culture and you have to be proud of it. Trust God and He will help you.

Personally I think the dot is cute.
As for the curry smell...well...I am an second generation American who's Italian grandparents were feared for being Roma Gypsies and carrying knives.
I had a friend who was from Trinidad Tobago, she was Indian decent, we lived in a two family house on opposite sides. When I finally moved out to my newly purchased home. I soon realized ALL my possessions were saturated by the smell of her curry cooking.
Curry is strong and can permeate walls!
Of course, if you know history, you know where ROMAS, Italian or other wise, came from. So Who am I to worry if I smelt like curry for 5 years???
But, yeah, if mom is cooking traditional dishes, than you too smell like curry, can't help it. But If I were you...I would be proud of who you are, Heck in America, most of us DO come come from some where else!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't know where you live, but it sounds like your classmates are uneducated about the rest of the world. Mention these things to your guidance counselor and parents. Don't let these narrow minded comments go unnoticed.
As for smelling like curry, there is some truth to it. I ride the train to work, and many Indians' clothes smell like spices. Of course, if you are one of them, you won't notice it.
I always open my house windows and run air cleaners when I'm cooking Indian food. This keeps the smell from penetrating into the carpet, furniture, and clothes.

It's an unfortunate state of affairs here in the US but it's a common practice of our society to poke-fun-at and tease those in our groups who appear to be or are different. It's not all out of mean feelings - although it may feel that way.
The teasing is a way to apply pressure on you to conform to the group... to look and act and think more like them. If they say you smell like curry, wear a fragrance, a popular one that others will notice, (ask a "new friend" for advice on this.) Getting you to blend in with the crowd... to dress and smell and act and think like the crowd... helps them to be able to express their liking for you. Believe me, they just need to have a few reasons to think and feel that you want to be "just like them" - another one of the crowd.
About the bindi... I hope you never give it up... it's mysterious and it's very attractive. (You can tell your friends I said that.. and perhaps some of them might like to try wearing one, too. Have you offered?)
Good luck.

Well, first of all, people are stupid. And curry is a wonderful smell, all though it does permeate everything. So, if you smell like curry, take it as a compliment. That's good stuff, kiddo.
The reason they tease is because they don't understand. They are uncomfortable. Just look at them and say, "It's sad that you'd rather make fun of me to make yourself feel better." And walk away. :)
Been there. It sucks.

Because you're different. They dont understand you. Maybe they fear you or fear what they dont understand so it makes them feel better by saying those things. They are scared of what they dont know. I think it makes them feel better to say you smell like curry because they feel superior if they do that. In reality they feel inferior inside and thats why they do it. Fear and Inferiority.

I don't know why this is, my guess is the ones whom do this sort of sh@t is thinking, better pick on them so I don't get picked on. Other words they have such low self esteem that they need to pick on others to feel big about their self's.
Don't listen to them and you should be proud of whom you are. You are better then the ones who act our in such childish manor!
Oh, sorry even children act better then this, because they know not racism, until some dummy teaches them it.

Ignorance! others take pleasure in bullying or making others feel bad to feel better about themselves.
im asian and i work in a predominantly white work place. (im the only asian woman in the company) some women at work doesnt like me and doesn't even say hi to me even after i say hello to them, but it doesnt bother me because i know that i'm a good person. i feel that thier jealous of me because im a beautiful and exotic looking asian woman who's taken attention away from them. im not worried.
be proud of who you are and dont worry about others ignorance. good luck

All those people who tease you are ignorant. You shouldn't listen to them because they don't know any better.
