You're out of warranty, go for it.
It won't hurt a thing.

It's safe. Thicker oil is also better for hotter climates for most cars. There's nothing to worry about. A much bigger problem would be putting 5W-30 in a European car that requires thicker oil in the summer (for example, some Jags and Volvos should use 10W-30 when the temps are high, and most modern VW/Audis should use 5W-40 year-round).

The California Highway Patrol was using straight 30W, as they had been for years on all of their squad cars, but the Ford Modular motors kept blowing up during high speed chases. The Ford dealership would have to stop warranting them if they did not change to the 0W20 that was recommended by the factory. They changed over and they also stopped blowing up the engines. The clearances are so close on those engines that the 30W wasn't lubricating right.

Knowing that, your engine is not made with those tight clearances and the 5W30 is used to increase the EPA mileage rating, so, the 10W30 is fine. You won't notice the mileage difference the way you drive. ha ha

No everything will work the same and you will not be hurting the engine at all. If you start using 20w or something higher it will be harder for the oil pump to pump the oil and you might see some problems but using 10w instead of 5w is nothing.

Not with your car. If you live in a warm part of the country, the heavier oil will help keep your engine cooler.
It is always a good idea to check, Certain high performance engines and motorcycles have very specific requirements, and using heavier oil could cause reduced flow, extreme pressure, and failed seals or shaft keys.
Never hurts to ask.

I use 10w 30 in my 1997 chev blazer with a 4.3 vortec engine and it has183456 kilometers on it with no problems. the owners book indicates either 5w 30 or 10w 30. check your owners book or talk to a mechanic that you TRUST. Happy Motoring.

No problem. Might even help with a high mileage engine.
Nothing to worry about, price is about the same, the mechanic was thinking about your engine. That's getting rare lately.

It shouldn't. Some companies that advertise oil for high mileage cars do that as a marketing ploy. But check your manufacturers recommendations and follow what they say. But as far as the oil.. it should be fine

it shouldnt hurt nothing, but you should run a little heavier oil in it,with that many miles.mine calls for 5w30,but i run 10w30 in it.5w30 is ok for winter, but for hotter weather, you should run a heavier oil,for protection.
