The tilt of the Earth. To fill in the blanks, direct rays striking the Earth for a longer period of time heat up the Earth more than less direct rays striking the Earth for a shorter period of time.

Hi. In the summer ,the sun is higher in the sky than in the winter where it is lower down in the sky. When the sun is higher rays travel through less atmosphere and heat the ground more than in the winter when the sun's rays travel through more atmosphere and not as hot
