Brilliant!

THIS is the solution to poverty and many other social problems! I think we should figure out how to make it happen.

If men menstruated (which would mean they would also be the ones to give birth), hysterectomy would be as common as circumcision and birth rates would thus be dramatically lower as result.

Fewer babies, fewer single parent households, less poverty, fewer people on welfare, lower taxes, on and on!

Jackpot! THIS is the solution! Why didn't we think of this sooner?

Based on my non-first hand observation, menses is horrific and I would not do it. I'd just have them cut the uterus out and be done with it.

It defies logic why it starts so early in life though. What the heck is the point of that?!?! Especially now starting in 5th grade?!?!

I take my hat off to you women that deal with it for 30-40 years. I wouldn't do it. I love my girls, but I'd just adopt or be childless.

Ok, I'm probably going to make some men angry here, but this kind of thing is what women have been hearing all of our lives, and it's never been put across as a joke. Women who menstruate have always historically been viewed as dirty and unclean, witches, etc. Because of our menstrual cycle, we are only seen negatively as being completely run by our own emotions and inferior. As for the comment in the article about sanitary items being free if men were to experience periods, I have wondered about that. Am not sure if that would really happen, that sanitary products would become free, but I do know that in Australia, all sanitary items such as pads and tampons carry GST(goods and services tax, added onto the normal cost, thanks Johnny). Why? These are absolutely necessary for women to use, and the Australian government is taking advantage of something that is a completely natural biological event for women.

I'm not sure if it would be true since i really hate hypotheticals. It is a very amusing satire tho. Margaret Cho had a bit about this, how men hate it when we talk about our periods, but if they had them, we wouldn't hear the end of it.

what i find most amusing is the inability of a few narrow minded people on this board *coughAlexandracoughMonoscoughCassiuscough* to recognize satire and give an actual criticism instead of attacking the author or taking it personally. Its not like the article is inviting violence or actually calling anybody out.

LOL That was very funny. And perhaps, in another dimension, that may even be true. I almost felt a little envious after reading that. lol

Deirdre,

It would not surprise me if we would be living in a society like this if the genders were created a bit differently given the lack of rights women have had over the centuries.

There is a certain individual who may be more at peace with himself if it had been this way. (You know the one who poses all of his hateful questions in the women's studies category and then cries about it when they have been deleted)!!:)

lol great satire- men would no longer be embarrassed to stand in line at the grocery store buying stuff for their wives! Also, I'd think there would be alot of grouchy people because everyone would have PMS

Wow what a ridiculous article. Interesting topic but definitely ridiculous. I don't think that would be true at all if men could menstruate. See, men LIKE they're penises. They like sex and of course masturbation. We don't like our periods. I can see how that "theory" would work but I think it would just make men emotional and hormonal, haha.

That would not be true, we wouldnt talk about menstruating any less than about beeing horny, we would pull ourself toegether and still send stuff up to Mars.
