Our hot tub is drained and there is rough, calcium scale on the surface. We would like to remove it to make the surface smooth again. Someone recommended distilled water. That is not working! Any suggestions? Thank you!

Lime-A-Way is made exactly for that purpose:

You could also use dilute hydrochloric (muriatic) acid, but you should take care not to let it come in contact with any metal fittings or the plumbing. Use gloves, a spray bottle, and/or a sponge.

Do not use an abrasive on a fiberglass surface. CLR in the proper mix used with a spray bottle will remove the calcium scale. There are other spray cleaners that will remove calcium. Go to the store and read some labels.

Heat white vinegar until it is hot, but not too hot to pour into a spray bottle and work with. Spray it on the tub heavily. Wait 10-15 minutes and then moisten a scrubbing-type sponge with more of the vinegar and scrub down the tub, using additional heated vinegar as necessary. Rinse well and dry.

Take a sample of water to your local pool supply store, tell them it's from a hot tub, and have them check the alkalinity, calcium hardness and total dissolved solids, sounds like the water chemistry is off. and Mary Beth is right, viniger will take it off.

CLR works very well, but be careful not to let it contact the plated fixures. Limeaway is not nearly as effective. Follow the instructions on the CLR container. This is the best mineral de-scaler I have used.
