i have a 1988 olds.3.8 and i changed the tranny oil in it and it took 6 qts. to fill it.

None go in a 3.8 liter v 6 engine however if the transmission behind that motor is completley empty it will probably hold about 8 quarts

You still have reverse, so that's a plus reverse is generally the first to go.Running it low on fluid means you might have done some serious damage though. The coolant lines shouldn't have any effect on fluid levels. Check the vacuum advance. It looks like an over sized fuel filter.It mounts to the transmission.

If you are just changing fluid and filter. Fill with 4.5 quarts, start engine cycle the shifter between d an r then place in park, Check fluid (With engine running!) and add accordingly. all are different so keep checking and adding until full. NEVER OVERFILL!!!

depends on which transmission you have.
thm125 pan holds 4.75 qts.
thm 440t4 or 4t60r or 4t65 holds 6 qts in the pan.

THM 200C total 9.4 quarts, removal of pan only 3.48 quarts.

THM 200-4 total 11.05 quarts, removal of pan only 3.48 quarts.

THM 250C total 10.04 quarts, removal of pan only 4.0 quarts.

THM 325-4L total 11.75 quarts, removal of pan only 4.86 quarts.

THM 350C total 10.04 quarts, removal of pan only 3.17 quarts.
