I'll list 5 of my favorites but go there for more specific ideas.

1. Samson , Shimshon - The sun. Biblical Samson was given superhuman strength by God. Short forms and variations in other languages include Sam, Sammy, Sampson and Sanson. (M)

2. Issac , Yitzhak - Laughter. In the bible the only son of Abraham by his wife Sarah. Hebrew variations include Itzak, Itzik and Isak. (M)

3. Levi - Joined. Levi was the third of Jacob's twelve sons; became father of the priestly tribe of Israel. Variations in other languages include Levey, Levin and Levon. (M)

4. Aviel - God is my father (M)

5. Jedediah , Yedidya - Friend of God; beloved of God (M)
