the printer is not in use. there are no printer or printing programs open. the printer is not even hooked up to the printer. i am trying to unstall the driver, so i can download the vista driver. both printer and computer are Dells, btw.

there is no queue open... there is no place to open the queue to cancel any printing. there are no other printers installed on this computer. it is brand spanking new.

i have deleted all the files that deal with the printer and driver, but still, cannot uninstall.

check your installed printers and there might be another printer installed maybe a old one if so that printer is blocking the new one uninstall it then go search the hard drive for any files or folders relating to old printer delete and restart that should do it

Dell is usually good at answering questions. Try going to the Control Panel and then to Printers and then to that Printer and see Properties and other choices and kill off the print queue which can result in the OS thinking it is busy but waiting.

try ctrl alt delete, then in applications or processes there should be a printer running (it might take a minute to figure out which program is the right one to end.) u could end that process orrr if that doesnt work hold the power button down so that when you turn the comp back on nothing like that should be running..

You probably have a document in the print queue. Clear out your print queue and then try to uninstall.

delete all and any printer files u have first then you should be able to uninstall your driver
