bogey, double bogey, etc. are? And where did the terms come from?I know what par is. He was a host of The Tonight Show a long time ago.....Ha! Just kidding. I like to play miniature golf, though. I had a date once with a golfer, and she tried to interest me in golf. When she asked me if I wanted to play a round, I TOTALLY misunderstood her, and wound up getting smacked a good one.

each hole has a par value, usually 3,4 or 5. Each stoke higher than par (using par 3 as an example) a 4 is a bogey, a 5 is double bogey, etc. A three is a par, a 2 is a birdie and a one in this case is a hole in one as well as an eagle!!

Birdie is when you score -1 less than par, eagle is when you score -2 less than par, bogey is when you go +1 over par, double bogey is +2 over par.
