Overt Racism

Overt racism is racism exposed and expressed out in the open for public view. It is intended to be overt for the purposes of continued racism and spread of expressed ideas within the general public. In the times before and during the height of the Civil Rights movement, racism was said to be overt. Today, racism is still alive and well but rather than being overt it's invert. But hopefully one day it'll be eradicated. Good luck!

Overt means open and observable ; not hidden

Racism is a belief or ideology that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, especially to distinguish it as being either superior or inferior to another race or races

An example of overt racism would be the Ku Klux Klan with their open belief of superior and inferior races.

Overt racism is a public, conscious act intended to harm or damage a person or a group of people of another race specifically because of the race of the victimized person or group of people.

An example...

Non-overt racism would be white Wendy THINKING she's better than black Barbara just because of the color of her skin.

Overt racism would be white Wendy SAYING to black Barbara:

"Yo black Barbara, I'm better than you because I is white, aaiiight?"

Really obvious and apparent and straight forward racism. If I said "all black people are stupid and inferior" that would be overt racism. As opposed to if I hired a white person over a black person for my job because of thier races and didn't explicitly state that that was the reason behind my decision.

RE:
what is overt racism?

overt racism is out in the open, completely undisguised. The KKK are overt racists. Subtle racism is harder to define, since people tend to read what they want to think into a situation

overt, blatant, direct, or explicit racism is the opposite of subtle, indirect, or implicit racism. a person whose overtly racist doesn't hide any of his prejudicial attitudes. he discriminates openly and consciously. on the other hand, someone who is implicitly may discriminate unconsciously. he may be completely unaware of his prejudicial nature.
