He was in the military. Army, if I recall correctly. He's no longer the Mayor of Carmel. He did do one term there in the 80's I believe.

I feel he supports the military but does so with his movies. Especially his more recent one. I think he is generally pretty quiet about his politics but he is definitely his own man and doesn't appears to follow any one particular crowd. Never heard of him being anti law enforcement. He is not much younger than our WWII soldiers. I think he is probably pretty conservative.

Simply, because he is an actor, and that was his job. When he is not acting, he is the mayor of Carmel, and is an advocate for peace. Do not judge movie actors, and actresses, as to their role in the movie, versus their real life role, when not acting, as to how they think and act. Many of today's actors all play much different roles in their real lives, as they help the poor, support our troops, advocate peace, etc.etc.,and do much good for the world.

Supporting it and making money from movies are totally different. I myself support the troops but, believe that bush should SHUT UP and accept that he isn't going to get his way no matter how loud he whines!!!!!!!
