I am getting ready to replace my standard tub with a Kohler whirlpool tub. The old tub is 60" X 30", the new is 60" X 32". It is in an alcove with concrete block on two sides. My question is, how is the best way to connect the drain kit. The instructions say mount the overflow and the drain assembly to the tub, then set the tub, so the down tube on the tub inserts into the trap in the ground. How can I tighten or adjust the connection after the tub is in. No access due to CBS block walls. There is only one access panel on the tub, but it is on the other end for motor access.
I was thinking maybe installing the drain kit to the trap first, setting the tub, then connecting the overflow and tub drain from inside the tub. Any suggestions?

Your existing trap may not line up with the tub drain, because the new tub is wider than the old tub. You need access from the side of the tub, the rear of the tub, or from underneath to align the drain with the trap and tighten the fitting. Because your tub is heavy and awkward to maneuver, I think it would be nearly impossible to install the drain kit to the trap before setting the tub in place and hope to have the drain and overflow in the right places with reference to the tub.

I run into this problem with mine. I had to connect it from the basement.
The first thing I thought of was the easy way too but, then I thought about the future and a good thing I did.
You don't want to seal yourself in where you can't make future repairs, you'll have to get at it at one time or the other.

Think about a separate plumbing wall or from the basement. You might want to cock the tub at an angle to make it fit. Then design around it. Make sure you can get at all the working parts before you lock yourself in.

Without access to the drain side of the tub, how are you going to gain access to the water supply?

All of the tubs I have seen have access to the side of the tub.
