personaly I like metal i can appreciate punk though its a free and passionate music but I was born a long hair Metal head and I will die a Long Hair Metal Head
Rock on both of you
P.S. Rock , Metal , Punk all need eachother to survive through this hip hop, dance sluts trying to sing and boy band fad some people seem to be in.

Personally, I don't really know why you need our opinions wether to listen to punk rock or metal because it's music and everyone's different. What I like better, you might not. And you can't like music because of the trend of what other people tell you.

With that said, I prefer punk. I like metal when I'm angry because it calms me down - I'd much rather have them yell and scream than me... But other than that I just can't take it. I think it's hilarious when people are like, I'm so metal brahhh etc...it's just hilarious. I mean cmon people, relax and enjoy life. Stop living shrouded in darkness.

But punk rock for me, is an escape. They are for the MOST part very into politics and such and want to change the world and it's corrupted ways, even if their often unsuccessful. But they are very knowledgeable and have good points. They have simple values for peace. Their music is upbeat and exciting. It's raw and just plain fun.

I'm not picky really, if you look in my cd collection you'll notice the Ramones, Bad Religon, and Social D. mixed in with my Pantera, Shadows Fall, and Killswitch Engage, good music's good music. As to the previous poster who it all sucks and classic rock rules, the problem with classic rock is that for the most part is it's been played so damn much it's fracking boring now. I loved Zeppelin when I was 14-15 now at 34 I turn it off when it comes on the radio. Other than that a little variety in your musical choices is not a bad thing really.

Punk

I prefer punk, because punk I believe usually has a better meaning behind their lyrics, or the lyrics are funny. In metal, the lyrics are always way too emotional and the singer sounds like he or she is trying way too hard to be deep.

"My darkening embers" type of crap, lol...
I like some metal though. I just prefer punk.

are you talking hair band metal or the metal that's now? same as for punk. music has evolved over the years.
i listen to metal.....more so than punk. punk gets my kids too wound. metal just puts them in a lull like a lullabye. strange. i was brought up on the oldies, but, moved onto metal because it was easier for me to relate to.

so metal all the way, hands down.

Yeah, you're precise, steel does not have any actual "ideology". you are able to say that hippies, skinheads and punks had something like an ideology yet no longer metalheads. revolt does not could desire to be politically stimulated. you are able to insurrection against many stuff. additionally no longer all punk bands have for sure defined ideology. one greater element: it is all rock song, area of known way of existence and all rock bands want to sell records and be known.
